The car-maker’s new vehicle is called Elite and it represents a V-8-powered touring car that boasts a folding hard top.
Probably the most interesting feature of the vehicle is its optional hybrid powertrain.
It is worth mentioning that for a long time Lotus has been experimenting with eco-friendly motoring, creating engines running on various power sources.
In March the company presented its Evora 414E range-extended hybrid vehicle at the Geneva auto show. However, until now Lotus boasted only concept cars. Its latest model is the one that the company looks forward to launch onto the market by 2014.
Weighting 1,650 kilograms, Lotus Elite has a 5.0-liter gasoline engine able to generate 612 horsepower, which is enough to help the car reach 100 km/h in 3.5 to 3.7 seconds. The company claims that the top speed of its hybrid vehicle is 195 mph.
The car features an electric motor and a kinetic energy recovery system analog to the one seen in Formula 1. So far Lotus did not provide any details on the specs or fuel economy.
