The New York City can now boast the world’s first hybrid street sweeper that can reach a top speed of 60mph and clean the streets at a speed of 7mph with carbon footprint reduced to minimum.

Dubbed the Allianz 4000, the vehicle includes a 6.7-liter Cummins diesel motor, two 12-volt lithium-ion batteries and an electric-traction drive system.

It was estimated that Allianz saves up to 45 percent of fuel compared to a diesel-only sweeper.

So far the per-unit cost of the sweeper has not been determined. But Allianz sales manager Chad Bormann says that emission standards make the vehicle a very attractive choice for cities were such vehicles have to meet strict environmental rules set by the law.
