The company’s new eco-friendly vehicle will be 50 percent more fuel-efficient than the Can-Am Spyder roadster. It will register a range of 375 miles (604 kilometers).
It is worth mentioning that the hybrid Spyder represents a plug-in hybrid vehicle that features an electric motor, lithium-ion battery and Rotax Advanced Combustion Efficiency (ACE) engine. The latter is used in BRP’s 2011 Ski-Doo snowmobiles.
The Can-Am Spyder hybrid concept has a distinctive Y-architecture, having two wheels in the front and one in the back.
In December of 2010 the company said that it started a 4-year project that includes the transformation of the 2007 Can-Am Spyder roadster into a hybrid vehicle.
The Bombardier Recreational Products will work together with the Advanced Technology Center BRP-Sherbrooke University and funding for the project will be offered by the Government of Canada’s Automotive Partnership Program.
