CAT – Aquatic Vehicle from Cal Craven

Designer Cal Craven has recently unveiled its latest concept – an aquatic car.

The vehicle is probably designed for a world where waterways replaced roads and people drive personal boats and not road cars.

The designer called his concept the CAT (short for City Aquatic Transportation).

In today’s world this vehicle can be used by people living in an urban setting by the seaside.

The CAT has a lot of windows so the travelers could observe the surrounding views.

Alfa Romeo 4C – Beautiful Eco-friendly Sports Car from Italy

It is worth mentioning that Alfa Romeo, which has been launching its marvelous 8C Competizione counterpart for a while now, has been continuously focusing its attention on performance.

But with its latest 4C model, the Italian car manufacturer wants to show that it has serious intentions of hitting the market of eco-friendly vehicles. In addition, Alfa Romeo designers have paid close attention to safety.

Here are some of the technical specs of the new 4C concept car:

Weight: 850kg
Power: 241hp
Acceleration: 0-100km/h in under 5 sec
Top speed: 25km/h

Thus we might in the near future witness the appearance of a gorgeous rear-wheel-drive sports car with an engine located in the middle and impressive fuel efficiency.

It was announced that Alfa Romeo 4C will go into production by the end of 2011, which means that very little times remains until the Italian carmaker’s green dream rolls out.

Volkswagen Aqua – New-Gen Eco-friendly Hovercraft Concept

Chinese designer Yuhan Zhang has come up with a very original concept for Volkswagen called The Volkswagen Aqua, which represents a hovercraft of the future.

Graduate in Industrial Design at Xihua University, the student thought that the concept should be made using a lightweight and at the same time a very durable material.

According to the author of the concept, the vehicle could be used in lakes, rivers, coastal water or even on snow.

It would be interesting to note that the CDN Car Design Awards China committee included this vehicle in the “Chinese off-road Vehicle” category.

The Volkswagen Aqua features 2 motors. The main motor obtains power from a hydrogen fuel cell and it is used to drive the main fan. The latter inflates the skirt around the hovercraft and raises the vehicle just above the ground.

The other fans, located at the rear, are powered by individual electric motors. These fans are used to provide forward thrust and directional control. It is worth mentioning that the Volkswagen Aqua can accommodate two passengers.

ARCadia V2 – Futuristic Electric Truck

Statistics show that the CO2 emissions from different transportation sources have increased by 20 percent over the past 20 years.

Taking into consideration that a lot of emissions are generated by trucks, Designer Vil Tsimenzin decided to design ARCadia V2, an eco-friendly vehicle that makes use of alternative power source.

The truck is powered by a system composed of battery and airflow turbines. The designer says that the vehicle would have enough battery power for a slow speed (between 1 and 8 mph) to run for about 2.5 – 0.5 hours.

In addition, the design of the truck was made in a way so the wind flow could be wisely used by 5 turbines. According to Tsimenzin, the optimum capacities of the turbines have been calibrated in order to be properly effective. He gave a theoretical situation in which at a speed between 5 and 10 miles per hour the power production would generate a constant usage supply of electricity and the truck would not loose energy.

In case the truck exceeds the speed of 10mph this would initiate the complex recharging system that will start producing more clean power.

VIERIA – Eco-friendly Concept Car that Filters Polluted Air

Two graduate students from the Kyun-won University designed a next-generation eco-friendly vehicle dubbed VIERIA that boasts a special filter that cleans air.

The 24-year old Gin-Woong Kim and 23-year-old Su-ji Kim are two representatives of the ANALOG industrial designing division of Kyun-won University.

Their four-wheel, single seater concept car boasts an inhaling system in the front that suck in polluted air and with the help of its inbuilt filter generates clean, pollution-free air.

The Phoenix – World’s First Vehicle Made of Bamboo

Dubbed “The Phoenix”, this eco-friendly vehicle is the world’s first car that is made of bamboo, which means that it is also biodegradable.

The Phoenix is the brainchild of designers Kenneth Cobonpue and Albrecht Birkner. It was built in just 10 days. The developers used bamboo, rattan, steel, and nylon.

The car is 153 inches long. It represents a great solution to one big problem linked with the waste produced by old cars that are no longer used.

Mr. Cobonpue mentioned that his project has the goal of showing the future of green cars by “using woven skins from organic fibers mate to composite materials and powered by green technology.”

The biodegradable skin that the vehicle is made of was designed to last the average amount of time that a person uses a car – in industrialized countries this period of time is equal to 5 years, while in other nation from 10 to 20 years.

In case the user wants to keep The Phoenix for a longer period of time, they can replace the skin, which is quite inexpensive. It is worth mentioning that the car’s frame can be easily adjusted for individual needs.

Currently the designers did not provide any data on the engine or motor of the vehicle.

R3 – Three-wheel Electric Vehicle from T3 Motion

T3 Motion is a California-based company that has recently announced it managed to build its electric prototype car called R3 (previously known as GT3).

A few details of the vehicle were unveiled in the summer of 2010 and today T3 Motion plans to patent its exclusive two-rear-wheel design.

Earlier there was information on some interesting features the car may have, including an iPad dock station from GPS navigation.

The car will be able to reach a top speed of 70mph and register a range of 80 to 100 miles on a single charge. Its electric motor is powered by lithium-polymer battery.

In case all of the announced features stay the same the car will have a price tag of somewhere between $35,000 and $42,000.

SKhy Bus – Driverless Hydrogen-powered Bus that Can Also Filter Wastewater

Dubbed SKhy Bus, this vehicle represents a fusion of nature and technology. If built, this eco-friendly bus will be able to considerably cut the pollution level of the environment through its numerous green features.

Designed by Alain Monteiro, the bus is able to process wastewater to create hydrogen that powers the vehicle. It would be interesting to note that wastewater will be 300 percent more effective in producing hydrogen than normal water.

In addition, the SKhy Bus get additional power from solar cells mounted on top of the vehicle and brakes.

The concept also makes use of large air intakes that capture carbon dioxide from the air and filter it, while using the extracted CO2 as a cooling system and fire extinguisher.

The components that SKhy Bus is made of, including seats and aluminum structure, are fully recyclable. According to the designer, the bus can have from 72 to 128 seats, with the number of seats depending on the city in which the bus will run.

One more interesting feature of the vehicle is its windows that can sense heat radiation of the sun and depending on the situation get darker of lighter. Finally the bus will run without driver, being controlled with the help of GPS and sensors.

Hyundai Blue2 – Green Vehicle with Lots of Innovative Features

The new model from Hyundai, entitled Hyundai Blue2, represents the next-generation of luxury vehicles.

It also features a ground-breaking hydrogen-powered fuel cell tank that powers the all-electric drive. Thus Hyundai Blue2 provides an emission-free ride.

Equipped with an innovative hydrogen fuel cell technology, the vehicle, according to the company, can register 120 horsepower and a fuel economy of around 82 mpg (of hydrogen).

The efficiency of the car is also improved by its streamlined body with some futuristic aspects and special alloy wheels with low resistant tires.

On the exterior the Blue2 has LED screen panels that surely make the vehicle more visually appealing.

Another technological advance is a special system able to recognize the driver. As soon as the owner of the vehicle is recognized the car automatically opens the doors. In addition, the side mirrors are replaced by cameras.

Inside the driver will be able to benefit from a state-of-the-art air-ionizing system that is able to filter the circulating air through the vehicle’s interior cabin.

Naimo – Electric Crossover Utility Vehicle from KIA

One of the vehicles presented at this year’s Seoul Motor Show is called Naimo and it’s an electric car developed by the popular Korean carmaker Kia Motors.

The name of this electric vehicle comes from the Korean word “Ne-mo” which is literally translated as “square shape.”

Kia Naimo is touted to be a crossover utility vehicle (CUV). It boasts some eye-catchy features, including wraparound windscreen, asymmetric sunroof, and LED headlights.

Inside you will able to find a mix of traditional and futuristic elements, such as Korean oak, which was used to make the door panels and the floor; and paper that engineers used for head lining.

In addition, you will discover an advanced transparent organic light emitting diode (TOLED) display on the car’s front panel along with and full device connectivity.

Naimo is powered by an electric motor and features twin 27kwh LiPoly batteries. The company claims that its new electric vehicle will be able to travel around 200km on a full charge.

In order to recharge the vehicle, you simple have to plug it using a 3.3kw outlet.
