Lexus Presents LF-LC Hybrid Sports Coupe Concept Vehicle at NAIAS 2012

Recently Lexus has presented its brand new LF-LC Hybrid sports coupe. The presentation took place at the NAIAS 2012 in Detroit.

The design is very attractive, managing to catch the attention of the crowd at Detroit Auto Show.

The vehicle boasts an aerodynamic body and it’s probably the most futuristic hybrid car Lexus has ever launched.

It would be interesting to note that with LED details the vehicle’s headlights were inspired by jet fighter afterburners. In addition, Lexus LF-LC is currently the only car to boast a front to back glass roof.

Inside one will be able to discover two 12.3-inch LCD screens that show information about the speed and current position of the vehicle.

The design of the car allows it to be even more fuel-efficient.

So far there has been no word on when the concept will hit the market.

Ford Sees Coconuts As Alternative to Petroleum

Throughout the past couple of years, Ford managed to increase the use of various eco-friendly materials in its vehicles.

The famous car-making company started making cushions using soy foam seat, instrument panels using castor oil foam, underbody systems using recycled resins and more.

Recently Ford started experimenting with coconut fibers that are also known as coir.

The new material is expected to make door and seat trim, plastic storage bins, and cup holders mode durable, as well as making its vehicles more recyclable.

It would be interesting to note that coconut fibers can be used to make lightweight products, which means that a car can save more energy.

In addition, these fibers create more pleasant interiors due to the fact that they have a more natural-looking textured finish.

According to Dr. Ellen Lee, technical expert for Plastics Research at Ford, the company is continuously looking for ground-breaking renewable technologies able to cut the amount of petroleum used.

Jaguar C-X16 – Stylish Hybrid Concept Unveiled at Frankfurt Auto Show

The Frankfurt Auto Show, which opened on September 15th and will keep attracting car lovers from around the world until September 25th, is where visitors can observe a myriad of new concept vehicles.

One of them is the wonderful Jaguar C-X16 hybrid concept.

The Jaguar C-X16 is a two-seater equipped with a 3.0 liter V6 engine able to generate 300hp and an electric motor that produces 95hp. The latter is incorporated into the eight-speed gearbox of the sleek-looking coupe.

The hybrid vehicle can register acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds, with the op speed being 186mph.

Jaguar C-X16 has its motor generator powered by a 1.6 kWh lithium ion unit installed behind the seats. Thus the car-maker was able to obtain a perfect 50/50 weight distribution.

According to Jaguar, during the official tests its eco-friendly vehicle emitted only 165 grams per kilometer of carbon dioxide. It was also announced that for short distances the driver will be able to run their car at up to 50 mph in electric-only mode.

Inside one will be able to discover a futuristic interior with multimodal rotary controls displayed on small OLED screens that can reconfigure in order to show the different functions that the driver can perform using the controls.

To maintain the battery pack juiced up, the company equipped its new vehicle with Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) that charges the battery packs when the driver hits the brakes. The final version of the vehicle along with its price tag will be available in at least a year, until then we can enjoy this stylish concept.

It would be interesting to note that the company simply could not wait for the opening so it launched a video right before the event. Watch the video below.

SoloTrek Engineers to Create a Multi-Passenger Hybrid Air Vehicle

A team of engineers headed by aircraft engineers Michael Moshier and Robert Bulaga is looking forward to building a multi-passenger, fuel-electric hybrid air vehicle.

The car will be the second and improved model of Vertical Take-Off-and-Landing (VTOL) single passenger vehicle, which the team named SoloTrek XFV.

The latest development will be based on the same duct-fan technology that the engineers used in SoloTrek. Currently the team is searching for someone to fund their project.

The previous $5-million project was funded by DARPA. The SoloTrek air vehicle was highly appreciated by aircraft enthusiasts. It also received the Invention of the Year award from Popular Science.

The latest project is expected to be very helpful to the police, during recue operations and for medical aids, where it could help people during different natural disasters.

In addition, Moshier says that their hybrid air vehicle could be widely used for everyday commutation purposes in poor countries, where infrastructure is a very low level. People in developed countries could use the vehicle to escape car-stuffed megapolises.

Toyota Unveils Its New GRMN Sports Hybrid Concept II

The Japanese carmaker Toyota has recently unveiled its brand new vehicle that boasts a very appealing design.

Dubbed GRMN Sports Hybrid Concept II, the vehicle was officially presented at the 39th Nürburgring 24-hour endurance race. The race took place near Nürburg, Germany.

It is worth mentioning that the car represents a modified version of the first Toyota hybrid sports car known as the Toyota MR2, which was presented in 2010 at the Tokyo Auto Salon.

The GRMN Sports Hybrid Concept II has good chances of becoming the company’s first marketed hybrid sports vehicle.

The car has a 3.5 liter V6 engine able to generate 295 horsepower and reach acceleration from 0 to 60mph in 6 seconds.

The name of the car comes as a tribute to Hiromu Naruse, a Toyota driver who passed away as a result of a crash in 2010. The abbreviation GRMN means GAZOO Racing tuned by Meister of Nürburgring (the title refers to Naruse).

Veritas RSIII Roadster Hybrid – The Quickest Hybrid Vehicle on the Planet

A combination of eco-friendliness and high performance is what the beautiful Veritas RSIII Roadster Hybrid can boast with.

It would be interesting to note that the core of this green supercar is the BMW-sourced V10 engine that can generate 507-horsepower and allow the vehicle to register acceleration from 0 to 60mph in just 3.1 seconds.

This figure is even better than the all-petrol version of the same model. Inside the model developed by Vermot AG one will be able to find a lithium-ion battery pack.

The top speed of this white beast is 205mph. By using the electric engine alone, the car can register a range of 31 miles.

It is worth mentioning that the Veritas RSIII Roadster is also equipped with Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) that offers additional power to the li-ion battery by making use of regenerative braking technology.

According to the head of Vermot’s board, the company plans to launch a coupe version of its green vehicle. The presentation is expected to be this summer. In addition, by 2013 Vermot looks forward to launching an all-electric version.

Fisker Karma – Luxury Plug-In Hybrid Vehicle to Enter Production Soon

The car will roll off the company’s assembly line by March 2012 and hit the stores around the United States in April.

It is worth mentioning that this nice-looking eco-friendly vehicle was expected to be launched in November 2009, but the production was pushed back to September 2010. Then it was once again pushed back to February 2011.

2012 Porsche Panamera S Hybrid – the Company’s Most Fuel-Efficient Car

The famous German car manufacturer Porsche decided to unveil its new 2012 Panamera S Hybrid.

The presentation took place before the opening of the Geneva Auto Show.

It is worth mentioning that according to Porsche its new eco-friendly vehicle will register 34.5 miles per gallon.

Bombardier Recreational Products to Present Can-Am Spyder Roadster Hybrid

The hybrid concept vehicle dubbed Can-Am Spyder was recently presented by the Bombardier Recreational Products.

The company’s new eco-friendly vehicle will be 50 percent more fuel-efficient than the Can-Am Spyder roadster. It will register a range of 375 miles (604 kilometers).

It is worth mentioning that the hybrid Spyder represents a plug-in hybrid vehicle that features an electric motor, lithium-ion battery and Rotax Advanced Combustion Efficiency (ACE) engine. Ford Presents Lincoln MKZ – World’s Most Fuel-Efficient Luxury Hybrid
